“We are built by our genomic codes, and the genome itself is continually modifying and revising for billions of years, and so do we.”

Fatima Abedi
Programs Coordinator
  • 604.358.9910

As Genome BC’s Programs Coordinator, Fatima Abedi coordinates the launch and application process for all new funding competitions. The process consists of communicating with research teams regarding the guideline for funding programs, identifying program requirements, and international collaborative engagement. She also supports the Senior Program Manager in the application process for BC researchers applying to Genome Canada funding programs.

Fatima studied at Mazandaran University, in Iran, where she obtained a master’s degree in Biotechnology. She then moved to Canada to study at Simon Fraser University, obtaining another master’s degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. After years of working in the Scientific field, Fatima decided to switch gears and embrace her passion for project management and execution. She also holds a certificate of Leadership and Management as well as a certificate in Research Administration.

Before joining Genome BC, Fatima worked in the wealth management sector as an Administrative/Executive Assistant at the Cole & Associates Corp. Prior to that, she worked as an Associate Scientist at the Fusion Genomics Corp, a genome based infectious disease diagnostic company.

Fatima takes any opportunity to learn something new and enjoys being social and creative. She strongly believes in giving back to the community and volunteer work. When Fatima is not working, you can find her reading, listening to music and playing her favourite sports.
