We are a catalyst for innovative solutions through the science of genomics

Who we are

Genome BC, a non-profit research organization, leads genomics innovation on Canada’s West Coast and facilitates the integration of genomics into society. Our major investors are the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada through Genome Canada and Western Economic Diversification Canada. This funding is complemented by partnerships with many national and international public and private funding organizations to drive BC’s bioeconomy.

Our vision is to see genome sciences revolutionize many aspects of our lives while providing solutions to humankind’s challenges.

Our mission is to lead academia, government and industry to develop a world-class genome sciences region that will deliver social and economic benefits to British Columbia, Canada and beyond, through:

  • Excellent projects and technology platforms,
  • Innovative applications for the life sciences cluster,
  • Strategic international collaborations, and
  • Proactive leadership in exploring societal impacts of genome sciences.

Genome BC was officially founded on July 31st, 2000, the day of its legal incorporation. But long before that, the vision to build a genomics-focused “innovation community” in BC was already on the minds of certain visionaries. Read our story.
