Innovation UBC’s Venture Buildling Program supports the next generation of science-based entrepreneurs in developing viable, transformative ventures built around UBC research innovation. The design of the program enables UBC researchers to step out of their technical comfort zone and, with the guidance of our venture-centric programming anchored by deep mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs, enables them to investigate, validate and deploy a multi-faceted startup business that will launch their innovations as commercially viable products and services.
For the 2024 – 2025 year, Innovation UBC achieved the following:
Ventures received $2.3M private investment and $5.4M in government investment
$1.8M venture revenue generated
18 partnering, licensing, M&A activities
Received 33 applicants to the Venture Founder program
Accepted 21 ventures with UBC derived IP to the Venture Founder program
Provided 2,747 mentoring hours to ventures
Support 61 up-and-coming entrepreneurs and 41 FTEs who are not part of the founding team.
Collaborated with the School of Biomedical Engineering, the Sauder School of Business and the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems.
Collaborated with SFU Venture Labs in co-leading the Pacific Regional Hub of Lab2Market which connects 7 BC Institutions (UBC-Okanagan, UNBC, UVic, Emily Carr, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Thompson Rivers University and BCIT.
A delivery partner for the Accelerate IP Network – Accelerate IP is led by New Ventures BC and Innovate BC.
Innovation UBC continues to accept and support ventures with and without UBC IP for the Venture Founder program. However, they will only support ventures with UBC IP (UBC Spin-offs) for the HATCH Venture Builder program.
