Reports from the UK and Germany indicate that over half of life science based companies that have completed all stages of regulatory approval, including clinical trials, were deemed commercial failures.  This translates into several billions of dollars spent on projects that had little economic or health benefit.  Similar reports from the USA have resulted in action from the US National Science Foundation, which now requires completion of a commercialization course before commercialization funds are awarded. There is a need and demand to implement a program which mirrors this program philosophy for local BC based companies.

GenomeBC and the BC Tech Association are partnering to actively support commercialization efforts for the most promising Genome/Life Science based companies. This will be achieved by creating HyperGrowth:Life – a one year, intense, commercialization focused program for one cohort group per year.

HyperGrowth:Life is a program created to drive revenue growth of companies in health-tech, digital health, life sciences, agri-tech, and related industries that are commercialized, or nearing commercialization.  Cohort companies will receive support through access to advisory teams of senior experts from Vancouver’s tech industry and other resources, including soft landing programs.  The advisory teams will provide coaching and mentorship in areas such as marketing, sales, strategy, and management.

With this level of support, the HyperGrowth:Life program aims to help cohort companies land their first deals, develop scalable go-to-market plans, and achieve sustained growth.  This, in turn, is expected to strengthen the BC biotech industry by building companies that provide opportunities for employment, investment, and innovation.
