Since its establishment in 2000, Genome British Columbia (Genome BC) has invested nearly $1.3 billion in over 500 genomics research projects. As genomics has advanced, Genome BC’s focus has evolved as well, moving from supporting predominantly discovery research to including application and translation with an additional focus on innovation – the practical translation of ideas and research outcomes into new and improved products, services, processes, systems or social interactions.
As part of its innovation mandate, Genome BC has launched the Genomics Innovation Fund (GIF) to support the advancement of innovation projects in BC. The key objective of the GIF Genomics Innovation Fund is to support the development of transformative innovation genomics projects with commercial potential*. Through GIF, Genome BC aims to support technology development projects that could be game-changing and advance the field of genomics with commercial potential or new applications that could likely lead to new commercial products.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Genome BC is introducing a new system for accepting funding proposals, starting with intake 002 of the Genomics Innovation Fund. All applications for this program must be submitted through Proposal Central. Submissions sent by email will not be accepted or reviewed.
An information session will be held on April 24 to guide applicants through the new process. Register here.
To help you create an account and submit your application, an Applicant’s Guide to Proposal Central will also be available on the Genome BC website.
*Definition of Commercial Potential: Commercial potential here means that the funding is designed to eventually lead to products or technologies that are economically sustainable and can attract further investment. This helps ensure the developed technologies can be brought to market and become accessible to those who need them.
