Explore the cutting edge technologies shaping the future of science
Geneskool® and Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre are collaborating to provide a unique opportunity for students to tour an internationally renowned genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics facility.
Students will see how researchers are developing and deploying cutting edge technologies to prevent and diagnose cancer and other diseases. A hands-on Geneskool workshop helps to reinforce the underlying scientific concepts of genomics.
DNA Sequencers
Learn about the powerful machines that read and analyze DNA sequences. Discover how they help us understand genomes and contribute to groundbreaking research
Robots
Think you can race a robot? See if you can process 400 samples per minute with precision and efficiency.
Data Centre
Get a behind the scenes look at the windy and chilled data centre. This room houses thousands of computers that store vast amounts of genetic data. Understand how this data is crucial for genomics research.
Geneskool Workshop
Participate in an interactive workshop of your choice to support student learning. Meet researchers and ask questions about their work to discover real-world applications of genomics research.
Tours of Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre are offered on the first and third Fridays of each month. Alternative dates can be arranged in advance.
Space is limited to 30 students per tour. Students will be divided into two groups; one will take the tour while the other participates in the Geneskool workshop.
