Most medical conditions are not the result of mutations in a single gene. Diseases that occur later in life like heart disease result from a combination of many genes and many environmental factors. Students take on the role of medical geneticists tasked with interpreting and explaining the genetic data to Frida. In addition to using their understanding of inheritance patterns, students must think very carefully how they will communicate the risk assessment to the patient.
