A zebra’s stripes may deter horse flies from landing on them according to new research. When researchers compared the behavior of horse flies as they attempted to land on either uniformly coloured horses, or zebras, they saw that the flies landed on zebras less than a quarter as often. This study shows that the stripes of a zebra prevent effective landing of horseflies, which leads to less flies successfully feeding.
