As avian influenza continues to devastate poultry farmers in B.C., and raises the risk of cross infection to cows and humans, two new genomics research projects aim to help the province stay ahead of the threat.
Genome B.C. is funding the two projects, led by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control in partnership with the province and the University of B.C. The goal is to analyze mutations to detect changes that could increase human risk, develop antibody tests, implement waste water surveillance and study transmission of the virus.
