Microarray technology provides a fast and economical method for expression analysis of tens of thousands of genes concurrently. The differences in gene expression between discreet conditions can be studied and the detected differences can be used to identify the genes involved in or affected by the biological event under investigation. The Microarray Facility at The Prostate Centre, VGH expanded in 2001 to become the Genome BC Microarray Platform, a comprehensive multi-lab, multi-user facility that contained all the critical elements required in the large-scale production and analysis of both oligo microarrays and custom cDNA microarrays. The platform was eventually renamed the Laboratory for Advanced Genome Analysis (LAGA) in 2010 to reflect a greater emphasis on bioinformatics services.
