Chimeric transcriptions are newly discovered genetic events that do not correlate with the current model for gene expression and have potential impacts and application in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
This project developed new analytical tools to decipher the complex gene expression mechanism, mainly the development of the first high throughput analysis bioinformatics pipeline to detect internal and partial tandem duplication events in RNA-seq data (BARNACLE discovery pipeline). The new tools will enable cancer researchers to understand chimeric transcripts with better resolution, which is expected to translate to new clinical diagnostics applications.
