Genome BC announces new Vice President, Sector Development and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO)

Genome British Columbia (Genome BC) is delighted to welcome Dr. Catalina Lopez-Correa to the position of Vice President, Sector Development and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) as of January 4, 2016. Dr. Lopez-Correa will be joining us from her current role of Vice-President & CSO, Scientific Affairs, at Genome Quebec where she has been instrumental in developing competitive teams for national and provincial research projects, and raising the profile of Genome Quebec on the global stage.

With over 18 years of international experience, Dr. Lopez-Correa has a deep understanding of genomics and human health coupled with recent work towards a provincial strategy for genomic medicine in Quebec. During her tenure at Genome Quebec she also played a pivotal role in developing the agrifood, forestry and environment sectors focused on end-users and industry challenges. She is a highly driven and process-oriented professional who brings not only passion but clarity of vision to her work.

Dr. Lopez-Correa holds an MD from UPB University Colombia, a Masters in Genetics from Paris VII/Pasteur Institute, and a PhD in Medical Biosciences-Genetics from KULeuven in Belgium.

In her new role, Dr. Lopez-Correa will be a core member of our leadership team and we have no doubt that she will become a key player in BC's life sciences community as Genome BC fulfils the goals laid out in our 2015-2020 Strategic Plan. "I am excited to take on this challenge and bring my set of genomic skills and experience in the field to this burgeoning innovation cluster," says Dr. Lopez-Correa. "There is much work to be done in ensuring the application and in achieving impacts for British Columbians and creating meaningful advances addressing economic challenges through genomic tools."

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Lopez-Correa to our Province and this vibrant life sciences community.
