This investment represents the culmination of years of collaboration and investment in to Thompson Rivers University (TRU)’s Dr. Lauchlan Fraser. He has been awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair (IRC) in Ecosystem Reclamation, valued at more than $2.5 million of which Genome BC contributed $250,000. This research hub for ecosystem recovery and environmental sustainability at TRU will support the development of reclamation technologies, tools and protocols that can be exported globally. The establishment of an IRC at TRU provides project funding for trainees and new researchers to study soil amendments, biodiversity and climate change in the context of ecosystem reclamation.
