Get your students thinking like forensic scientists with a field trip to a full-day Genome BC Geneskool workshop!
Using techniques and equipment that real forensics scientists use, students work as a team to solve a simulated crime.
“Everybody loves the CSI effect,” says Jolene Mergens, a teacher at Gladstone Secondary, “but this goes one step further because it shows how science is really applicable in everyday life in ways that we don’t normally think about.”

Genome BC partners with Capilano University in North Vancouver every December and April to provide these workshops free of charge (not including transit costs). Places tend to fill up fast so check here for current availability.
Dedicated volunteers with experience in laboratory science are excited to share their knowledge and experience with your students. Eric Hall says “I really enjoy what I do here and I hope some of my passion rubs off on them to pursue careers in science”.
Full day workshops are available to grade 9 – 12 students.
