SUMMARY:Genome BC's 2026 Annual Genomics Forum: Resilience by Design - Genomics for Biodiversity in a Shifting World
DESCRIPTION:Responding to changes in our biodiversity is one of the most pressing scientific challenges of our time. As ecosystems shift in response to habitat fragmentation\, climate change and land use pressures\, the species and ecological processes that sustain life are being driven to react and adapt. \nThe 2026 Genomics Forum features expert conversations on the solutions and emerging opportunities at the intersection of genomics and biodiversity science. Researchers\, Indigenous leaders and partners will explore how genomics can deepen our understanding of changes in biodiversity and accelerate evidence based actions to preserve\, conserve and manage our ecosystems. \nThis year’s sessions feature: \n\nglobal initiatives to unveil the genetic diversity of the world’s species\nIndigenous stewardship and data sovereignty\nadvances in tools for biodiversity monitoring and management\nthe untapped potential of natural products research and the bioeconomy\n\nJoin us on Wednesday\, May 6\, 2026 at the UBC Robson Square Theatre (C300) to connect with researchers\, partners and decision makers who will shape the future of biodiversity

SUMMARY:Building Interoperability in the Canadian Genomics Data Ecosystem and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Interoperability depends on more than technology. It requires strong data standards\, trusted partnerships and collaboration across sectors. In this webinar\, Dr. Emma Griffiths from the Centre for Infectious Disease Genomics and One Health (CIDGOH) at Simon Fraser University\, will share practical examples from her work with federal and provincial partners\, diverse data repositories including NCBI/ENA\, Pathoplexus and iMicroSeq\, as well as international initiatives such as IPSN\, PHA4GE\, GA4GH and HL7. The session will explore how data standards support stronger data sharing\, integration and communication across organizations and platforms. \nWhat you’ll learn in this session: \n\nHow data standards enable interoperability across genomics systems and platforms\nWhy collaboration across sectors and jurisdictions is essential to connected data ecosystems\nExamples of successful data sharing between Canadian and international partners\nHow stronger interoperability can improve the value and usability of genomics data
