Geneskool Outreach Programs

At Genome BC, we strive to enable students to have fun while learning about genomics. We also believe in supporting secondary teachers and giving them the tools they need to teach students about this complex topic in new and interesting formats. Our Genome BC Geneskool is comprised of a series of outreach programs geared toward grades 9-12 that do just this! We welcome secondary teachers to learn more about our free, science education programs.

Geneskool Classroom Workshops

We work with teachers and students in the Lower Mainland, rural communities across BC and the Yukon. We send practicing scientists into their classrooms to provide hands-on science presentations and activities.

Geneskool Full Day Campus Workshops

Partnering with post-secondary institutions, we offer full-day workshops for students in campus laboratories. Students solve a murder mystery “CSI style” while becoming familiar with working in a real laboratory and utilizing equipment they may not otherwise be able to access.

Geneskool Travelling Suitcase Exhibits

These four portable displays are full of hands on activities, articles, books, DVDs, pictures, etc. on various life science and genomics topics that are relevant to BC.

Geneskool Summer Science Program for Teens

At this high school science program in North Vancouver, teens are given a unique opportunity to become immersed in genetics and genomics using state of the art equipment in university biology labs. Summer program participants perform the clinical practices and molecular biology techniques that geneticists and scientists use every day; while exploring aspects of forensics, biotechnology, genomics, inheritance, microbiology and ethics in genetics. *Designed for teens that have completed Science 9 or higher*
