Instead of using guess-work to attempt to breed excellent strawberries future farmers may one day be able to use science. By sequencing the genome of the cultivated strawberry will allow farmers select desirable traits in the strawberries they grow to ensure they are the best product they can grow. Some of these desirable traits might include high-yield and disease resistant crops, that produce fruit that ships well without being damaged, that are also red, sweet and delicious.
