Previous studies have shown that napping is both good and bad for heart health, although inconsistencies between studies may explain these differences. However, a new study conducted in Switzerland may have found finally an answer.
The team investigated almost 3,500 randomly selected participants between the ages of 35 and 75. Participants were required to report how many naps they had had during the previous week at their first check up, and then had their health monitored over the following 5 years. Those who reported having between one and two daytime naps a week had almost half the risk of a heart attack, stroke of heart failure than those who did not nap at all.
It is not yet clear exactly how napping plays a role in cardiovascular disease, although it does indicate that the frequency and duration of naps may be important for heart health.
