The reuse of needles to administer vaccines is a source of infection all over the world, so new technology that reduces this risk is essential. Microneedles may be the answer; they are a painless patch that can administer vaccines, and then dissolve within one minute, leaving no sharps waste behind, and importantly they cannot be reused. By incorporating antibacterial silver nano-particles into the dissolvable microneedles the researchers believe they have created a promising vehicle for safe vaccine delivery around the world.
