Every year, Genome BC finds ways to support youth in their pursuit of genomic literacy through scholarship. The Genome British Columbia Scholarship, holds a value of $1000 and is designed to recognize the exceptional achievements of senior students who have developed science and technology projects focused on areas of strategic importance. These areas encompass vital fields such as human health, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, bioenergy, mining, and the environment.
We are delighted to announce the recipient of this year’s Genome BC Scholarship Award in collaboration with the Science Fair Foundation of BC . After careful consideration, we have chosen Keanu Chan as the deserving recipient of this prestigious scholarship.
Keanu’s application stood out among the many impressive submissions we received. Taking advanced classes such as calculus 12 and physics 12, Keanu’s thirst for knowledge is evident. He embraces the opportunity to learn more because of his genuine passion for the subjects he studies.
In his application, Keanu expressed his desire to continue his pursuit of learning into university. He sees education as a pathway to delve deeper into his areas of interest and believes that his studies should be driven by a genuine passion. Keanu’s enthusiasm and dedication are evident, and we are thrilled to support him in his educational journey.
While Keanu has yet to determine his exact path of study, he envisions attending a university in British Columbia to explore an area of science that will soon be determined. Initially drawn to the field of specialized medicine, Keanu has discovered a spark of interest in physics that continues to captivate him. With a future career that may involve either path, Keanu’s versatility and openness to exploration showcase his remarkable potential.
Receiving the award will provide Keanu with greater ease in accessing post-secondary education, enabling him to take a head-start towards his future career. This scholarship aims to support talented individuals like Keanu who exemplify a genuine passion for scientific exploration and a commitment to making a difference in their chosen fields.
