Researchers from the Sweden, America, and Germany have closely investigated the genomes of 5 species of birds-of-paradise. By investigating their genomes, the researchers were able to tease out which genes showed signs of past selection and evolution. These genes included those for feather development, coloration and shape, which indicates that these genes responsible for the bird’s spectacular plumage have been influenced by sexual selection.
