Dr. Vikram Chopra joined Genome BC as a Research Program Manager in July 2010 to support and project manage research teams that were successfully awarded Genome Canada and Genome BC funding in various competitions. Vikram has several years of life sciences research experience in fields of neuroscience, genetics and genomics. Prior to joining Genome BC, he was a Research Associate at the BC Mental Health & Addiction Research Institute in Vancouver. Vikram's work involved the identification of protein alterations present in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder patients but not unaffected individuals.
Vikram completed his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees at the McGill University, Montreal and then relocated to the west coast where he obtained his PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of British Columbia. He then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre applying several genomic technologies to identify genes associated with psychiatric disorders. In addition, he contributed to the development of enabling technologies for studying the human brain and potentially developing treatments for neurological disorders.
