Robin_002_web.jpgDr. Robin Downey completed her MA and PhD in Communications Studies at the University of Calgary under the direction of Professor Edna Einsiedel. 

During her MA, she examined media coverage of "Dolly," the cloned sheep, in the Canadian context and contributed to an international cross-cultural media analysis on the same topic.  Her PhD research investigated the role played by patient groups and other stakeholders in the development of stem cell research in Canada. She taught Science, Technology and Society (STS) as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary and environmental studies at DeVry Institute of Technology.

She has been involved with several projects related to biotechnology, including a citizen jury on xenotransplantion and a consensus conference on genetically modified food. She also served as Managing Editor of Public Understanding of Science from 2003 to 2005.  Dr. Downey is currently a Visiting Researcher in the Applied Communication and Technology Laboratory (ACT Lab), which is part of the Simon Fraser University School of Communication.
