Marcia MacDonald joined Genome British Columbia in July 2011 as Manager, Scientific Affairs.  She brings over 16 years of experience managing a range of genetics projects in the BC research community.  Most recently, she worked at Tekmira Pharmaceuticals, where she was responsible for the development and evaluation of novel gene silencing approaches to the treatment of metabolic diseases.  Prior to Tekmira, Marcia worked as a Research Scientist at Xenon Pharmaceuticals, managing project teams responsible for the identification and validation of human genes involved in CNS and cardiovascular disease.  Her early applied research experience involved developing novel gene therapy vectors at NeuroVir Therapeutics.

Marcia obtained her PhD in Genetics from The University of British Columbia, where she studied mechanisms of atherosclerosis and inflammation.
