2nd Annual Don Rix Distinguished Keynote Address
"Proactive P4 Medicine (predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory): What it is, what it will mean for you and what it will mean for society."
In 2010, Genome BC established an annual lecture to honour Dr. Don Rix, a founder of Genome BC who dedicated his life to the Canadian life sciences community. The event provides an opportunity to capture the hearts and minds of key influencers, the scientific research community and science-engaged citizens and enhances the understanding and value of genomics and science in the 21st century.
Our inaugural event was a huge success and this year we are excited to have as our Distinguished Keynote Dr. Leroy Hood.
Dr. Hood's research has focused on the study of molecular immunology, biotechnology and genomics. He participated in developing the DNA gene sequencer and synthesizer and the protein synthesizer and sequencer - four instruments that paved the way for the successful mapping of the human genome.
A pillar in the biotechnology field, Dr. Hood has played a role in founding more than 14 biotechnology companies. Dr. Hood is one of only 10 people, world-wide, to belong to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine. We are looking forward to his presence bringing significance and enthusiasm to our city!
