Research Overview
Genome BC invests in genome sciences research projects and technology platforms focused on areas of strategic importance to the Province of BC such as human health, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, bioenergy, mining, and the environment. By working collaboratively with government, universities, and industry, Genome BC is the catalyst for a vibrant life sciences cluster with far reaching social and economic benefits for BC and Canada. To date, the organization has research programs with approved budgets of over $625 million, including 180 research projects and science and technology platforms.
Genome BC has created sector strategies in consultation with scientists and end-users. Predicting and quantifying the future impact of genome sciences within and across sectors can be predicted by clearly defining and understanding the challenges facing each sector. Identifying the areas where genome sciences can benefit each sector's key challenges provides a basis from which the potential value of that impact can be inferred.
