Genomics, Society and Ethics Advisory Committee

Genomics, Society and Ethics Advisory Committee (GSEAC)

The committee was formed to provide the following functions:

  • To consider and deliberate on specific issues of societal and ethical importance related to genomics research and development as they arise
  • To further understand and promote the ethical, economic, environmental, legal and social (GE³LS) issues in Genome BC research programs
  • To monitor and support the work of Genome BC’s GE³LS Advisor

Administration:

  • The Committee will hold three quarterly meetings and one summer retreat each year
  • Members are appointed for three year terms and are eligible for reappointment once for a second three year term
  • Secretariat functions are provided by the GE³LS Advisor
  • Membership is limited to a maximum of 12 members   
  • The Chair must be a member of Genome BC’s Board of Directors
  • Membership must be representative of Genome BC’s diverse regions and
    stakeholder groups
  • Members unable to attend 3 meetings in succession will be asked to step down
