Knowledge Translation Workshops
Genome BC hosted a series of knowledge translation workshops in 2009/10 focused on disseminating knowledge generated from Genome BC-funded social science and humanities projects into the wider community. There were four workshops in this series:
24 September 2009 - Dr. Jan Atkinson-Grosjean from the Pathogenomics of Innate Immunity Project led the workshop Translational Science – Linking Policy & Practice with policy makers, funders and scientists on the concept of ‘translational science’ that emerged from her research.
28 October 2009 - Drs. Kieran O'Doherty and Peter Watson from the CAE/BC Biolibrary Project, along with UBC’s Office of Research Ethics, held the workshop Ethical Governance of Biobanking which engaged members of BC Research Ethics Boards on developing an ethical governance framework for evaluating biobank proposals.
15 March 2010 - Elisabeth Ormandy and Dr. Dan Weary from the GE³LS Architecture project led the workshop The Use of Genetically Engineered Animals in Science which engaged members of animal care committees in a discussion on the new Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) guidelines on genetically-engineered animals.
30 April 2010 - Emily Marden and Dr. Ed Levy from the Mammalian Organogenesis Project led the workshop Patent Pools & Open Source Licensing: Reflections on Genomics Research & Alternative Intellectual Property which engaged scientific and legal researchers, technology transfer office directors and biotechnology industry members to discuss findings on novel and alternative IP mechanisms.
