Competition III
Competition III
Competition III, hosted by Genome Canada in August 2004, was open to applications of large-scale genomics, bioinformatics, and proteomics research. Approved projects were awarded in August 2005 (no cost extensions were approved fall 2009) and were broad in scope and reflected the ideals of scientific excellence and societal and economic impact to Canadians. The application process for Competition III was similar to previous open competitions with the addition that within each project was embedded distinct but complementary research projects exploring the social and ethical benefits of the science for Canada.
Many of the approved Genome BC projects today include international collaborations, reflecting the high quality of ongoing work in BC being recognized worldwide. The nine successful projects were awarded $82.5 million over three years with $18.5 million provided in the fourth year.
Projects co-funded and managed by Genome BC through this competition include:
- Efficient Identification and Cloning of Single Gene Deletions in the Nematode
C. elegans - Functional Genomics for Emerging Infectious Disease (PREPARE)
- Conifer Forest Health Genomics
- Building a GE³LS Architecture
- High Resolution Analysis of Follicular Lymphoma Genomes
- Dissecting Gene Expression Networks in Mammalian Organogenesis
- The Pathogenomics of Innate Immunity
- Pleiades Promoter Project
- Consortium for Genomic Research on All Salmonids Project (cGRASP)
