Competition I
Competition I
In April 2001, Genome Canada announced their first national funding competition. It created a solid foundation for exceptional research in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. A broad range of projects were awarded with applications in several fields important to Canadians such as health, forestry, fisheries, and the environment. Technology platforms were also funded to provide ongoing support for the upcoming high level genomics research.
Approximately 50 percent of Genome BC funding came from Genome Canada. The remainder of the co-funding was secured from the province of British Columbia and other sources such as Western Economic Diversification and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, the private sector and international organizations.
Projects co-funded and managed by Genome BC through this competition include:
- Cancer Genomics: The Early Stages of Cancer
- C. elegans: The Nematode as a Model Organism
- Microbial Envirogenomics: Micro-organisms and their Interaction with the Enironment
- Forestry Genomics: Mechanisms of Wood Formation and Pest Resistance in Forest Trees using Spruce, Poplar, and Arabidopsis
- Genomics Research on Atlantic Salmon
