Genome BC Project Leader

Dr. Kristi Miller is the head of the Molecular Genetics Section of the Pacific Biological Station (PBS) with the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and has an adjunct professorship with the University of British Columbia in the Department of Forest Sciences. She received her Master's degree from the University of British Columbia and PhD from Stanford University.

In addition to functional genomics research on salmon migration, Dr. Miller has a long standing interest in the salmon immune system, with projects on adaptive genetic variation of major histocompatability complex (MHC) genes, genetic susceptibility of salmon to pathogens, and the characterization of effective immune responses using functional genomics approaches.  She also works with the aquaculture industry on biomarkers for stress, development of quantitative molecular assays to assess pathogen exposure, and the elucidation of genes associated with production traits.  The strategic goal of her research program is to provide genetic and genomic advice and tools to aid in the sustainability of aquatic resources.
