Sarah Foot
Geneskool North – Presenter Profile
Sarah Foot, Geneskool North Coordinator
Sarah was raised in the small town of Hixon, BC and, after graduating from Prince George Secondary School, she immediately started at the University of Northern British Columbia. While completing her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2007, Sarah volunteered for Geneskool where she helped a class of seven students extract DNA from a kiwi, make an edible model of DNA, and create a DNA code bracelet. Those students really knew that science was cool! As a result of this great experience, she wanted to introduce the fun, hands-on science activities to other students as the Northern Coordinator for Geneskool. Sarah has researched cell culture in chronic myeloid leukemia, properties of a cancer-fighting enzyme, and genetics of mountain pine beetle. Her hobbies include reading, camping, walking her dog Morgan, and taking pictures. She looks forward to bringing genomics into the classroom by working with volunteers, teachers and students throughout northern British Columbia in her role as the Geneskool North Coordinator.
