Romy Friedman

Romy Friedman is results-focused and people-oriented Science & Maths teacher with a passion for life-long learning and promotion of scientific education and literacy. She is an innovative teacher who has served as an active member of various departments and schools and has had a diversity of experience in various curricula and countries. She has taught abroad in Germany and Uganda. Graduating from McGill with a B.Sc, she has a solid understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts. With her B.Ed. from Trent University, Romy is a knowledgeable leader who has successfully guided students through a variety of external assessments – IGCSE and IB external examinations, IB extended essays and externally moderated internal assessments in such areas as laboratory and project work.

Romy is a natural communicator committed to providing a safe, encouraging and effective learning environment built on mutual respect and trust. As a high school teacher, and published scientific author, she is dedicated to encouraging holistic learning, has a passion for life-long learning and the promotion of scientific education and literacy which she has demonstrated through the establishment of events such as the Science Symposium and Science Fair. She continues to display her dedication to lifelong learning as she is currently enrolled in the Curriculum & Pedagogy department at UBC for her MA in Education.

Romy is very excited to be a part of Genome BC this summer in the role of Camp Director for Geneskool, and promoting science in a fun and innovative way.

Vinci Au

Vinci Au has been involved with Genome BC's Geneskool as a coordinator and instructor since 2008. Her enthusiasm for genetics started early on in high school and it began with great teachers and mentors. She recently graduated with a B.Sc. in General Life Sciences at the University of British Columbia. Aside from her academic interests, Vinci spends her time birding, traveling, practicing yoga and adventuring outdoors.
