Genome British Columbia (Genome BC) welcomes your comments and invites you to be a part of the conversation. We have updated our Commenting Policy to provide users with a better understanding of how to engage with us on all digital platforms and what you can expect from us.

What does the commenting policy cover?

This Commenting Policy covers all of Genome BC’s channels, which include, but are not limited to:

Our values guide everything we do at Genome BC, which extends to our digital media channels and communities.

We are committed to making our digital community a safe place for all users on all platforms. We welcome debate and thoughtful discussion; however, Genome BC reserves the right to delete any posts or comments that, in its opinion, are slanderous, malicious, threatening, aggressive, spam, profane, a misrepresentation, call for violence or whose purpose is to promote and/or link back to a product or service. Additionally, harassing others who comment will not be tolerated.

Users may disagree with an idea however they must always be respectful of others and refrain from the following:

  • Comments that incite violence or other action in violation of any federal or provincial anti-discrimination laws
  • Bullying, cursing, and harassment, and degrading comments about race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity
  • Sexually explicit and sexually vulgar language and profanities
  • Comments that promote illegal activity
  • Solicitations or promotions of products or services of any third party, unless approved in advance by Genome BC
  • Comments that include false or defamatory information
  • Posts that misrepresent or hide the poster’s identity
  • Comments that violate privacy or confidentiality
  • Comments unrelated to the topic
  • Repetitive comments and spam posts
When will we respond to your comment?

We strive to review all messages, posts and comments and will respond when appropriate. Our accounts are actively monitored between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Replies may be delayed outside of these hours.

How do we manage privacy and consent?

Respecting everyone’s privacy is a fundamental principle of our online digital community. We understand the importance of safeguarding personal information, especially for individuals who are not of legal age. Therefore, we are fully dedicated to ensuring the protection of privacy and adhering to applicable regulations.

We prioritize obtaining consent and respecting the wishes of our community members regarding the use of their personal information and are committed to upholding the principles outlined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), as well as complying with the laws of the province of British Columbia, where our operations are based.

Who is responsible for comments and opinions?

Any comments or opinions shared on Genome BC’s digital channels are solely the views and responsibility of their respective contributors. The views expressed by outside contributors or followers do not represent the official views of Genome BC, its management or employees. Genome BC does not endorse or approve of any views expressed by external parties.

Do we post original content?

All content posted by users on Genome BC’s digital media channels must respect and comply with intellectual property rights associated with such content. Users are solely responsible for ensuring they have the necessary rights and permissions for any content they share.

Will the Commenting Policy change in the future?

Genome BC reserves the right to modify these guidelines without prior notice. Any updates or changes will be effective immediately upon their implementation.
